Hi There !!
Setting up an aquarium every time we move in a new home, is very tedious. Actually, setting it up the same way is quite boring, so this time I wanted to try my hands on Aquascaping, to create a beautiful world for our little friend. A little change from the regular setup.
But, then I saw this post on the critter crafts and I got so inspired that it took away the whole idea of Aquascaping…hehe. 😉
I fell in love with the idea of painting the glass instantly and I decided to make a glass painting on the aquarium glass itself. Here is the tutorial for the DIY Glass painted Aquarium and I really hope you will like it.
Let’s get started.
Pointer:
This Diy is going to consume most of the time in drying. Let it dry thoroughly, completely, move step by step.
Supplies:
- Old Aquarium/ fish tank
- Water-based glass colors
- Solvent-based glass colors
- Glass liners
- Food colors
- Fevicol
- Toothpick
- Brushes
- Extra cloth for wiping
Here’s a timelapse of the making of DIY Glass Painted Aquarium :
Instructions:
- Take a printout of the design you want to paint on the back side of the aquarium or you can do a free hand as I did. It’s completely optional, Just secure the paper on the inside of the aquarium with a tape and start outlining with a glass liner.
- Squeeze out a little liner on a piece of cloth to remove any air bubbles. start outlining on the back side of the glass, where you want the design to appear.
- Let it dry thoroughly, for a minimum of 1 hr.
- Color your design, I have used three types of colors here. Water-based colors solvent based colors and food color.
- Start by applying the color directly on the glass. I personally loved the solvent based glass colors, they are really easy and smooth to work with. you can use whatever you prefer, just go slow and let it dry.
- For the food colors, I have already mentioned in my post tinted jars, how to make food coloring.
- Paint the aquarium and leave it to dry for 24 hrs.
- Spray it with acrylic varnish, let dry again and Voila!! it’s ready.
Set up your aquarium and a home for your fishy is ready. I hope they feel right at home.
I am sure you too will make a Stained Aquarium. Let me know in the comments section below and Subscribe so you don’t miss out new DIY projects …a long list is coming down soon…you don’t want to miss that.
