DIY Tinted Mason Jars

Hi There!

I have to admit I have a little crush on Tinted Mason Jars. We, the Women, have this habit of collecting everything that we feel can be of any use, later. From storage jars to tins, to glass bottles we keep stockpiling now and then. But sometimes a clear glass looks bland. So, To amp it up a little, I like to stain mine. These Tinted jars are fun to make, use them as a vase, as storage or as lamps for home or party decor.

Check out the video and get the instructions down below.

Supplies:

  • Mason Jars
  • Glue (Modpodge/ fevicol)
  • Food color
  • Bowl
  • Straw
  • Disposable Glass

Directions:

  • To make the mix, take about 1Tbsp Modpodge/Fevicol (enough to cover up the jar).
  • Add 1/2 Tbsp water (You can see in the video above, I have not added water as my food color was not very thick and I didn’t want to make the mix runnier)
  • Add the Food color of your choice.

How to make tinted Jars at home

  • Mix up really well, until you get the desired color.
  • Stir everything until well mixed.
  • Pour the mixture into the mason jar and start swirling slowly until it covers the entire jar.
  • Put it upside down on a disposable glass. Let the excess color run down.
  • Leave them to dry for 24 hours.

Baking in the oven (optional) Rather a better option – To get a perfect tint.

I kept mine at room temperature since we are in temporary accommodation and I don’t have enough space in the kitchen for an oven.  I know!! What does the oven have to do with this tutorial anyway ?? It is so because you can make the process of drying faster by baking the jars in the oven.

  • Keep the jars upside down.
  • Wipe off any extra color on the top, place in the oven preheated to 180 degrees in an upright position.
  • Bake for  15 mins or until it completely dries out.
  • Take them out and let them cool.

and there you have perfectly tinted Jars. You can either use them as such or make these cute Moroccan Lanterns as I have. 🙂

I hope you will make yours soon.  Let me know in the comments section below and subscribe so you don’t miss out new DIY projects …a long list is coming down soon…you don’t want to miss that. 🙂
