How to make the Flower Pressed Coasters:

Prepare the Flowers

Flower Pressing is an age-old technique. Don’t tell me you never buried that ‘Rose’ you got from your first valentine in your dairy. Those sweet, pink flowers buried in school textbooks. What Days!! What memories!!  If you don’t know what I am blabbering about here, Simply press the fresh flowers by burying them inside heavy books for a week max, and there you have your pressed flowers. You can also get these off amazon if you don’t want to wait for long.

Style the Silicon Moulds

Now that you have your Pressed Flowers ready, set up the silicone molds in a well-ventilated space, probably by the window where you get a good amount of sunlight. Also, ensure to keep them on a  leveled surface to avoid ending up making uneven coasters. Now start Placing the flowers on the molds. There is no hard and fast rule here, just style them as they please you.

Prepare the Resin Mix

First and foremost put your gloves on and respirator too before dealing with resin. So, mine was by epoke and it asks for a ratio of 3:1, check the labels/ instructions on the mix you buy, like some work in a 1:1 ratio. To make the mix take three parts of resin and One part of hardener and mix them gently until the two layers blend into one. Add a few gold flakes to the mixtures and start Pouring.

Pouring the Resin mix

Gently pour the mixture into the Moulds, until you reach the desired thickness. Press the flowers down and they will start to float up.  If you see any Air bubbles, poke them with a needle, or a stick, or torch them with a lighter or a hot air gun. Let the mixture rest for about 48 hours. Cover the resin Coasters with something to avoid dust particles from getting in.

Demoulding the  coasters

Check the coasters after 48 hrs, they should be dried by now, if they haven’t, give them some more time. Now, gently demold the coasters from the silicon molds. they come off very easily when dried completely.

What a lovely gift idea! I’ve always wanted to try resin but was always concern about the mess. This is a smaller project that I can handle. Thanks for sharing!
