Supplies you need to make Yarn Gnome Ornament

The items used to make the gnomes are easily available right in your home. An empty tissue paper roll is required for the bobble hat of the gnome, and some leftover yarn in different shades for the hat and the beard. A wooden bead or any round bead for the nose, some hot glue with a gun, a tiny ball of cotton, and scissors.

That’s it!! It’s that easy and budget-friendly way to decorate your Christmas tree.

I used some merino wool I got earlier for a DIY Macrame leaf. Find the tutorial HERE.

How to Make Yarn Gnome Ornament ??

There are two major steps in making a Yarn Gnome Ornament. The first one is making the bobble hat of the gnome and the other one is the beard.

For the Bobble Hat of the Gnome

First off, Cut a half-inch ring from the cardboard paper towel holder for the base of the gnome hat. Measure the height of the hat you want to keep.

Double the yarn to create a large loop. Around 10-12, inches is fine. I have used a thick yarn I required only 12-14 pc to cover the entire tube. However, if you a using thin yarn, you will need more pieces. Thread the yarn loop inside the Paper roll ring. Fold over the loose yarn pieces into the loop and pull to make a knot. Cover the tissue paper roll with all the yarn pieces until they cover the entire tube. Use a small piece of yarn to create a loop and trim the extra yarn into a round shape.

Stuff the hat with polyfill. This will help retain the shape of a hat.

For the Yarn Gnome Beard

Now we will make the Gnome beard with a pompom. If you have a pom-pom maker, then it’s great. Otherwise, take some white yarn and wrap it over a piece of cardboard. Keep wrapping until you get the desired thickness. Once you reach the desired thickness, slide a small piece of yarn in the middle of the wrap, secure it, and tie the loops.

Cut through the loops at the bottom. Trim into a beard shape. I went for a rough beard, however, you can trim it further to get a nicely trimmed cute round beard.

Glue the beard inside the hat with the help of a glue gun.

For the Nose of Yarn Gnome Ornament

Glue a wooden bead, slightly tucked in the hat again with the help of a glue gun. Hold tightly until it secures in place. You can use any kind of round bead or a pearl, or stick a cherry on a nose as I did.

Lastly, I slid a small piece of thread into the Gnome’s cap to hang it on my Christmas tree. And there you have it, a cute Yarn Gnome Christmas Ornament. Make them and add a touch of whimsy to your Christmas tree.
