From vibrant decorations to delicious Hawaiian-inspired cuisine, this guide will help you throw the ultimate Hawaii kitty party that your guests will never forget.
As they say,
Hawaii is not a state of mind, but a state of grace.
So light up the tiki torches for the party that wows!!
As in Luau!!
I have always dreamt of traveling to Hawaii and enjoying the fresh ocean breeze under the palm tree. So, this time I thought, why not bring Hawaii to my kitty party!! Moreover, this is one such theme that every age group can enjoy. So, are you ready to transport your guests to a tropical island? Let’s find out how you can deck the party settings with these easy DIY decor and ideas to surprise your family and friends with this exotic theme.
What to wear?? The Dress Code.
From tropical prints to floral dresses, beach maxis to sarongs are all you can flaunt in a luau. Tuck a flower behind your ear, wear a garland of flowers, and slip into the flip-flops for a fun and relaxed look. Let yourself free and feel the breeze. Encourage your guests to embrace the Hawaii vibe. Offering a prize for the best dressed can add fun and excitement to the party.

Decor for the Luau:
Setting up a scene is the most important key to an authentic Hawaiian experience. If you are planning an outdoor party, you can transform your oasis with a few palms, coconuts, beach towels, an inflatable pool, artificial garlands, beach balls, and toys that will turn your space into Hawaaiin Island. Scatter string lights for ambiance, seashells, and palm leaves to decorate the food table. Unfortunately, the weather gods were unhappy the day I planned the party, so I had to take my Hawaii island indoors. Here, I assorted a DIY centerpiece with sand, some seashells, and a candle in a fishbowl decorated with flowers, paper flowers, chalkboards, seashells, pineapples, palm leaves, etc.
A Hawaiian Luau is incomplete without garlands, hibiscus flowers, pineapples, and bamboo streamers. You can either make them at home, make the garlands with the flowers available, Get some hibiscus flowers to tuck onto your guest’s hair or make these bamboo streamers from craft papers, but if you are planning a large-scale party, you can buy them here.

Or you can get your hands on and try out some easy DIY’S like this invite, Hula girl, the welcome signs and the tiki gods made of cartons
For the Hula girl, you only need one empty glass bottle, craft paper, some jute, and a glue gun. Start by cutting the craft papers from one side into thin strips. Glue them to the center of the bottle and wrap the jute around the paper, decorate with paper flowers. Use it as a decor item or serve drinks to your guests.
To make the Tiki gods, collect three different-sized cartons and wrap a brown paper into the carton. Once you are done with the wrapping, draw the tiki gods on the carton. Same with the Aloha Board sign. Cut the different shapes from the carton box, wrap them with bright neon papers, and paint the letters. Stick these signs to bamboo or a river cane.
Food;
No Hawaii party is complete without delicious Hawaiian cuisine. Serve up a feast of tropical delights. Nothing better than fresh coconut water served chill in the coconut shell itself. Also, you can make Pina colada if you want to add a punch to your party. Serve fresh smoothies, and fresh-cut fruits such as pineapples, and watermelons. For dessert, you can plan lemon, mango or orange souffle would be an ideal choice. If it’s an adult luau, you can serve mocktails and cocktails, set up a barbeque, prepare some teriyaki chicken, and enjoy the feast with your friends.
Games for the Luau;
No Hawaiian Luau is complete without games. Add some fun and excitement to your party with some Hula-Hoop Contests, Tie the Knot, Beach Volleyball, Coconut Bowling, Hawaiian Limbo, The Hula Queen Contest, etc. are some great options to keep your guests entertained. You can also set up a Lei-making station with some flowers where guests can create floral necklaces to take home as party favors.
