Now let’s make the Moon Clay Ring Dish

Clay-ring-holder-diy-jpg

First of all, you need to gather all your supplies, you don’t want to be running around, trying to find an extra rolling pin around the house as I did. Clay tends to harden up with time. Of course, it’s not going to harden up in an hour or so but different brands have different periods.

However, you can also use whatever you have, like any cylindrical tube or a glass bottle to roll the clay. Now that you have gathered your supplies, take out a large chunk of Air dry clay from the package and start to roll out using a rolling pin.

Tip: Work some clay in your hands to slightly warm it. Mine was super sticky, probably because of the hot weather I was working in. When it’s too sticky throw some baby powder-like we do while kneading the flour. Likewise, dab some water (not too much) if it’s too hard.

Flatten the clay to smooth it out, Keeping the length and thickness as desired. Draw your desired shape, like I did a crescent moon here. I am getting obsessed with moon phases.  Read how I have made Moon Phase wall hanging with cardstock paper.

If you Haven’t used cardstock paper, see how you can make this dollar store sunburst mirror with this paper.

Okay, coming back to this… Cut along the edges of the template with the help of a knife. Smooth out the edges with the help of water, use a paintbrush or your fingers. Dab in water and gently move your fingers/ Paintbrush along the edges.

Roll out a ball of clay and make a long rope, long enough that it goes all the way around the moon. Attach it to make the edges of the moon with the help of water and brush. Blend using your fingers.

Allow the Clay ring Dish to dry for 24-48 hours.

When it’s dried, sand it lightly with the help of sandpaper. Paint with black acrylic paint. I have used black for the base and gold for the edges and stars.

and TADA !! Your DIY Clay Moon Ring Dish is ready.
